At a social occasion in a pub in 2016, Patrick Grady was found to have touched and stroked the neck, hair, and back of a coworker 17 years his junior.

In the House of Commons, the former SNP chief whip confirmed his actions and apologized “without reservation.” The MP for Glasgow North, Mr Grady, is also set to be suspended by his party.

Mr Grady told the Commons, “I am profoundly sorry for my behavior and I deeply regret my acts and their repercussions,” and promised that “such behavior on my behalf will never happen again.”

He also stated that since the incident, he has taken “bespoke and generic training” to alter his behavior.

Furthermore, Mr Grady resigned as SNP chief whip last year following allegations of inappropriate behavior.

Nicola Sturgeon, the party’s leader, claimed she was previously aware of “a concern,” but not of any “formal complaint.”

Grady was suspended from the Commons for two days in June 2022 after a report that he had made “an inappropriate sexual advance” by stroking a junior member of staff’s hair, neck, and back.

In the same month, the Independent Expert Panel issued a report recommending that Grady be removed from the House of Commons.

It said Mr Grady had expressed “sincere regret” and made “efforts to correct his behavior,” but that he should be “grounded for two sitting days, make a public apology in the House of Commons, and a private apology to the complainant.”

The panel was reacting to a complaint by Parliamentary Standards Commissioner Kathryn Stone, who discovered that Mr. Grady stayed at an SNP work social gathering after his colleagues MP had gone on October 20, 2016.

He made an “unwanted sexual advance to the complainant that comprised the rubbing and stroking of the complainant’s neck, hair, and back” while under the influence of alcohol, she claimed.
