Leslie Kenny Illness and Health: Oxford Healthspan CEO Speaks About Smart Ageing Summit and More.

Leslie Kenny Illness and Health update: Leslie Kenny, a successful entrepreneur, was diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases in her late 30s. Instead of relying solely on conventional medicine, she sought alternative healing methods that ultimately led to the reversal of her conditions and a significant improvement in her overall health.

After pursuing further education at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City, Kenny partnered with scientists at the University of Oxford to establish Oxford Healthspan, a nutraceutical company dedicated to extending healthy aging. Inspired by Dave Asprey’s work on biohacking, Kenny became a Bulletproof Coach, further deepening her knowledge of optimizing human performance through nutrition and lifestyle interventions.

The driving force behind Oxford Healthspan was the discovery of spermidine, a naturally occurring molecule with remarkable potential to promote cellular rejuvenation and slow the aging process. This molecule, often overlooked by pharmaceutical companies due to its unpatented nature, holds immense promise for addressing the root causes of aging, including stem cell dysfunction, mitochondrial decline, inflammation, and gut dysbiosis.

By inhibiting at least nine of the 12 hallmarks of aging, spermidine acts as a powerful cellular housekeeper, optimizing the body’s self-cleaning and recycling mechanisms. This approach has the potential to delay the onset of age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, and cancer.

Kenny’s journey highlights the transformative power of self-directed healing and the potential of natural compounds like spermidine to revolutionize healthcare. Her dedication to spreading awareness about spermidine and its potential benefits exemplifies her commitment to empowering individuals to take charge of their health and achieve optimal well-being. Sound Health and Lasting Wealth had a conversation with the CEO and here’s everything to know

Q & A session with Leslie Kenny

Q: Can you share your background and how you became a Bulletproof Coach?

A: I first encountered Dave Asprey and his inspiring story of personal health transformation in 2016. His journey resonated with my own experience of overcoming lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and infertility. Inspired by Dave’s passion for health optimization, I joined the first European Bulletproof Coach training program in London. My fellow coaches and I share a deep belief in the body’s innate healing ability and are committed to challenging the prevailing sick care system.

Q: What prompted you to establish Oxford Healthspan?

A: My involvement in connecting Oxford University regenerative medicine startups with investors led me to an encounter with Immunology Prof. Katja Simon and Dr. Ghada Alsaleh. They were researching the molecule spermidine, which had demonstrated remarkable potential in restoring immune function in elderly CD8 T cells, the cells responsible for identifying and eliminating cancer cells. As we age, these T cells often lose their ability to recognize threats, leading to immune dysfunction. Spermidine’s ability to revitalize these cells was particularly intriguing to me, as it mirrored my own experience of autoimmune disease.

The ubiquity of spermidine, naturally produced by our bodies, gut microbiome, and plants, further fueled my interest. Despite its promise, spermidine remained largely overlooked due to its status as a common dietary molecule, unpatentable and therefore unattractive to pharmaceutical companies. This highlighted the inherent conflict between healthcare profits and genuine health solutions. Determined to make spermidine accessible, I launched Oxford Healthspan in 2020, introducing our flagship product Primeadine® spermidine supplements.

Q: How does spermidine combat the hallmarks of aging?

A: Scientists have identified 12 root causes of aging, ranging from stem cell and mitochondrial dysfunction to inflammation and gut dysbiosis. Impaired autophagy, the cellular self-cleaning process, plays a significant role in aging and is associated with several of these hallmarks. Spermidine has been shown to inhibit nine of these 12 hallmarks, akin to having nine housekeepers tackling ten out of twelve messy rooms. Addressing these hallmarks at the cellular level, the foundation of our bodies, is crucial for slowing the aging process and promoting overall health.

Q: What is the Smart Ageing Summit and when will the next one be?

A: The Smart Ageing Summit is a conference that brings together leading scientists and clinicians to discuss the latest research on aging and longevity. The summit was founded by a group of scientists and clinicians who were frustrated with the lack of public awareness of the latest research on aging and longevity. They wanted to create a forum where people could learn about the latest research and how to apply it to their own lives.

The next Smart Ageing Summit will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St. Hilda’s College in Oxford, UK.

Q: What can people expect to learn at the Smart Ageing Summit?

A: Attendees of the Smart Ageing Summit will learn about the latest research on aging and longevity, including:

  • How to slow biological aging – There are a number of things that people can do to slow biological aging, such as eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and managing stress.
  • The importance of healthspan over lifespan – Healthspan is the number of years that a person lives in good health. It is more important to focus on healthspan than lifespan, as people who live longer lives are not always healthier.
  • The impact of lifestyle habits on health – Lifestyle habits have a major impact on health. People who smoke, eat unhealthy foods, and do not get enough exercise are more likely to develop chronic diseases.
  • The latest research on autophagy, exogenous ketones, and GLP-1 inhibitors – Autophagy is a process that cells use to clean themselves out. Exogenous ketones are a type of fuel that can be used by the body in the absence of glucose. GLP-1 inhibitors are a type of medication that can help to control blood sugar levels.

Q: Who are some of the speakers at the Smart Ageing Summit?

A: The Smart Ageing Summit will feature a range of speakers, including:

  • Dr. Ghada Alsaleh, who runs the UK’s first and only Space Innovation Centre – Dr. Alsaleh’s lab is sending tissue into space to see how it ages and what we can do to slow or stay that process in space in the hope that we can use those interventions on earth.
  • Dr. Sandra Kaufmann, American celebrity longevity doctor and author – Dr. Kaufmann is the creator of the Kaufmann Protocol of 7 pathways of aging and author of two books on molecules that can inhibit aging. She will be speaking about how to slow biological aging.
  • Sir Christopher Ball, Academic and former Warden of Keble College – Sir Christopher Ball is a former Warden of Keble College and a leading expert on aging.
  • Prof. Denis Noble, Emeritus Professor of Physiology at the University of Oxford – Prof. Noble is an Emeritus Professor of Physiology at the University of Oxford and a leading expert on aging.
  • Dr. Paul Ch’en, Oxford GP and Cancer Immunologist – Dr. Ch’en is an Oxford GP and Cancer Immunologist who is interested in the use of diet and lifestyle to prevent and treat cancer.
  • And few other speakers.

Q: What advice can you give to people with an autoimmune disease who are looking for relief and answers?

A: Embark on a transformative journey to reclaim your health and vitality, dear warriors battling autoimmune diseases. Recognize that your body is not the enemy but a misguided protector, earnestly striving to defend you. Instead of resorting to immune-suppressing measures, embrace a holistic approach that rekindles harmony and balance within your body’s intricate systems.

Identify and eliminate dietary triggers that instigate your immune system’s overreaction. Simultaneously, incorporate anti-inflammatory powerhouses such as Omega 3 fatty acids and olive oil to nurture your body’s resilience.

Venture further into the world of innovative therapies, investigating the potential of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg). Clinical trials have demonstrated its remarkable ability to induce remission in rheumatoid arthritis patients. While the treatment may be financially demanding, it offers a promising alternative to conventional medications that often carry significant side effects.

Embrace the profound truth that you are a miracle, a testament to the extraordinary potential that lies within. Your body possesses an innate wisdom, capable of achieving remarkable healing feats. Nurture your body with the nourishment it craves, and it will respond with renewed vigor and vitality.

Remember, the cures for seemingly incurable conditions like lupus exist; they await discovery. You are not alone in this quest for holistic healing. Join hands with fellow travelers on this path of empowerment, sharing knowledge and experiences to illuminate the way forward.
