Reddit Discussion: Is Julie Plec Racist?
Julie Plec has been called racist by fans for many years now.
According to a Reddit user, she has been tagged as a racist due to her treatment of various black characters in The Vampire Diaries.
Similarly, according to Mary Sue, her acts were called out by fans many times in the past. Emily was just one of many Black witches who would be put into Magical Negro roles for the bulk of the white actors. Bonnie would disappear for episodes, then reappear to assist the white characters.
Some fans have also alleged Plec for not giving a deserved ending to Bonnie. All the other characters ran to Bonnie if they needed any help and Bonnie was put into the worst situation throughout the series.
Fans believe Bonnie was not given a happy ending and her story was poorly developed because the writer did not want her stealing the spotlight from other white characters.

Vampire Diaries: Julie Plec And Kat Graham Drama
Kat Graham’s refusal to return to The Vampire Diaries’ Legacies.
The refusal caused drama between Julie and Kat but the co-writer Plec seems positive about the whole incident.
According to Deadline, Julie said doors will always be open for Kat if she ever changes her mind and wants to return to the show. Till then, she respects her decision not to return.
While some fans have alleged Plec of mistreating Kat during her previous appearance with poor writing of her role and poor development of her backstory, Plec does not seem to be bothering with what fans are talking about.
According to Cinemablend, Julie went on to say that she and her partners had approached the actor several times about a possible return. However, the actress Kat seems to be invested in other things as of now.
If only Julie Plec wasn’t racist we could’ve had Bamon. Like this scene is more romantic than any Delena scene. pic.twitter.com/ivc0ml6n4z
