Stephen played for the Spartans from 1989 to 1993 before joining the coaching staff in 2003 after a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Marquette under former Izzo assistant.
He has been more of a lucky charm for Michigan State because, during Stephens’ tenure on Izzo’s staff, MSU was able to attend five Final Fours, win six Big Ten regular-season titles, four postseason tournament titles, and finish with a 477-189 record.
