An Australian home chef dubbed her latest creation a ‘total game changer’ for the culinary world – and thousands agree.

Alice only recently discovered that you can make a ham and cheese toastie in air fryer, and that the method is a dozen times better than a skillet.

The cook’s first attempt produced a ‘perfect’ sandwich with expertly crisped edges and oozing delicious cheese.

‘Oh my gosh, I tried an air fryer ham and cheese today, game changer. I will never pan fry again,’ she gushed about the meal.

Alice buttered her bread, dusted garlic salt outside, and added deli ham, one slice of American cheese, one slice of gouda, and popped it in the air fryer at 370 for 10 minutes, flipping once in between.

A expert tip is to stab a toothpick through your sandwich to ensure that the top slice of bread doesn’t fly up around the dish.

A few other Aussies shared their admiration and cooking tips.

‘I have have made this many times with great results,’ one said. ‘Spread the bread with granulated mustard, add a few sweet pickles, ham and cheese, lightly butter the bread on both sides … Delicious.’

‘Use mayonnaise instead of butter, it’s so good!’ another recommended.

‘It looks terrific! I will definitely try that,’ a third said.

Some shared other surprising meals they use their air fryer for.

‘I make toast in the air fryer. Comes out perfect every time,’ a man wrote. ‘I use my air fryer to make hard cooked eggs as well.’

‘Made steak for dinner last week in the air fryer – cooked perfectly. Tasted amazing,’ a man said.

But not everyone was on board with air fryer toasties.

‘Love my air fryer but it’s a pain to wash. Would rather wash a small skillet for a single sandwich – but not knocking the end result, I’m sure it was delicious!’ a woman said.

‘Sorry, air fryers are not all they are cracked up to be. Grilled on a hot griddle or stovetop is a true grilled taste. Nothing better, in my honest opinion!’ another added.
