Lawes is 32 weeks pregnant and intends to compete in at least two more games before deciding to stop skating and remain at home with her unborn child.

This weekend, some ice royalty from Manitoba made an amazing announcement.

One of the top curlers in the province, Kaitlyn Lawes, announced on Twitter on Saturday morning that she and her partner, Stephan Vigier, are expecting a child. In the post, Lawes exclaims, “For the past 22 weeks we have quietly enjoyed sharing some great news (with) close family & friends. Now we would want to share with you.”

According to Lawes, the couple “We are excited to announce that we are expecting! Baby Vigier is expected to arrive in early December.”

She played third for the legendary Jennifer Jones rink for 12 years before announcing last spring that she would captain her own team the following season. As a new bundle enters the home, she is still making plans for the upcoming winter.

Vigier was born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba. Prior to advancing to the Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL, he played 18U AAA with the Pembina Valley Hawks. Before playing professionally for numerous seasons in a variety of leagues, such as the AHL and ECHL, he first played in the USHL and NCAA.

Kaitlyn Lawes and Stephan Vigier’s Married Life and Wedding

Kaitlyn Lawes married a professional ice hockey player Stephan Vigier. Her husband has been a hockey star since his college days.

Lawes and Vigier had a small wedding in front of their friends and family a few years back. They have yet to share those memorable photos.

Keith, her father, was a skilled curler who represented Newfoundland at the 1969 Macdonald Brier. Andrea Lawes, who represented Ontario on the 1990 Scott Tournament of Hearts title team, is her half-sister.

Her performance has so far been highly intriguing in every competition. Lawes earned a gold medal while competing for Jennifer Jones’ team in the 2014 Winter Olympics, making them the first women’s team to be selected for the Games and the first team from Manitoba to win the gold medal.

She recently competed in a mixed doubles event at the 2018 Winter Olympics and won a gold medal. With this victory, Lawes and Morris became the first Canadian curlers to win two gold medals, making Lawes the first person to win two gold medals in a row.

For the Lawes squad, 2009 was yet another fantastic year. With Laryssa Grenkow and Breanne Meakin as their new front-end in place of Peters and Wazney, they won the Manitoba junior title again. Lawes guided Manitoba to a third-place finish in the 2009 Canadian Junior Curling Championships with an 8-4 round-robin record.

Kaitlyn Lawes Career Brief

Lawes first gained attention in 2008 when she and teammates Jenna Loder, Liz Peters, and Sarah Wazney won the Manitoba Junior women’s tournament. At the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, Lawes skipped the rink that represented Manitoba.

Her team won the national title by defeating Saskatchewan’s Stephanie McVicar rink in the championship game. Her foursome will now be eligible to compete for Canada in the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships. She guided Canada to a 5-4 round-robin record there, which tied them with the Madeleine Dupont squad of Denmark.

After defeating Denmark, she lost to Liudmila Privivkova of Russia in the 3 vs. 4 playoff match. This qualified her team for the bronze medal match, where she would once more compete against Russia. This time, her rink defeated the Russians, winning 9-8, and therefore capturing the bronze medal.

But in the playoffs, they defeated Ontario’s Rachel Homan and Alberta’s Casey Scheidegger rink to retain their title and once again represent Canada at the World Juniors. Lawes led Team Canada to a third-place finish at the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships with a 6-3 round-robin record.

Kaitlyn Lawes Is Excited To Return To Skip Next Season With A New Squad

According to Kaitlyn Lawes, she is frequently questioned about skipping again towards the end of the season, but because she has been so preoccupied with playing third base for Jennifer Jones, the thought never occurred to her.

Since moving up to the women’s division in 2009, Lawes has played third and has won nearly everything there is in the sport over the previous ten seasons. As a skip, Lawes won two Canadian junior championships as well as silver and bronze medals at the global juniors.

The three-time Olympian from Winnipeg felt it was time to go back to her roots when Team Jones announced last week that they will split up at the end of this season. Lawes has joined forces with third Selena Njegovan, lead Kristin MacCuish, and second Jocelyn Peterman from Team Jones to form a new team for the upcoming season.

Lawes, a native of Winnipeg, acknowledged that she hasn’t fully assimilated the significance of being allowed to skip once more but that she is more enthused about her team and figuring out what works for them.

Lawes is anticipating a successful conclusion to her time with Team Jones. The current Manitoba champion Mackenzie Zacharias and her team will be Jones’ partners in 2019, with main competitor Dawn McEwen announcing her retirement. Lisa Weagle, the backup, has not yet shared her plans for the upcoming season.
