Her burnt body was discovered Tuesday at a St. Paul warehouse. And police quickly located a suspect near his Bloomington home that had been set on fire.
The suspect was previously involved in abusing her on several occasions. According to a court document Goodermont filed in June, Patric, the suspect held a loaded gun to her head last year.
She was seeking an order of protection for her two teenage daughters against Simmons. Simmons was charged with assaulting Goodermont in 2018.
However, Goodermont was concerned and worried for him. When Simmons was also the subject of a civil commitment petition in June, with a court document stating that he was hospitalized for psychosis, she was worried.
According to her former husband, Tyler Goodermont, Kelli was concerned about Simmons and told her daughters and roommate about it.
He remembered Kelli as a wonderful mother and a loving woman, saying Tuesday, “Her life ended too soon.”

Kelli Ranning Goodermont was burned to death by his suspected ex-boyfriend Patrick Simmons on Tuesday. According to officers, they responded to a 911 call just before 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul’s St. Anthony Park area about a woman on fire.
When they reached there, Goodermont appeared to be severely burned and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Her death is still being investigated.

Sgt. Natalie Davis, a St. Paul police spokeswoman said, “These kinds of calls are shocking and devastating.” According to Davis, police quickly identified Simmons as the suspect.
He was interviewed by St. Paul police homicide investigators and logged into the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of murder.
Simmons was also a mental patient who poses a substantial risk of causing physical harm to others as a result of his illness.
Following Simmons’ arrest on Tuesday, his father stated that he believed his son should have received more treatment and possibly been committed for a longer period.
“I’m displeased in the system,” Fred Simmons said, “because it can’t help guys like him.”
