Kathleen T. Zellner & Associates was founded in 1991 in Downers Grove, Illinois. Zellner’s firm specializes in cases involving unjust convictions, civil rights violations, medical malpractice, and prisoner maltreatment.

As of March 2016, Kathleen has received about $90 million in wrongful conviction and medical malpractice settlements. The National Law Journal designated her a top ten trial lawyer in the United States in 2000 for a $13 million suicide malpractice judgment.

Zellner also obtained a $15.5 million civil rights victory in 2007 for the infringement of Kevin Fox’s civil rights, an $11 million verdict in Missouri for Ryan W. Ferguson, who had served 10 years in prison, and a $9 million civil rights verdict in Washington for Ray Spencer in 2014.

Kathleen received the American Bar Association’s “Pursuit of Justice” Award in 2012.

Kathleen Zellner is a lawyer from the United States who was born on May 7, 1949.

Zellner was born as the second of seven children in Midland, Texas. Owen Thomas, her father, was a geologist, and Winifred, her mother, was a chemist who went on to become a nurse. Zellner’s family relocated to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, when she was nine years old.

Kathleen attended Wisconsin’s Marquette University and the University of Missouri before earning a B.A. from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Kathleen earned her Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1981, where she was the Law Review’s Editor-in-Chief and clerked for 2nd District Illinois Appellate Court justice George W. Lindberg.

Kathleen worked as a consultant for Johnny Depp on the Depp versus Heard defamation trial in 2022. Her husband, Robert, is a commodity and bond trader with a degree in economics. Robert and Kathleen have a daughter named Anne, who is also an attorney.
