Laws are necessary, but some of them cause injustice to certain victims. Domestic violence specialists, for example, have criticized “failure to protect” laws in several states in the United States.

They argue that this type of law frequently criminalizes domestic abuse victims who are too afraid to leave. According to BBC News, in Oklahoma, parents who fail to protect their children from child abuse may face the same charges as the perpetrator.

Who Is Rebecca Hogue Oklahoma?

Rebecca Hogue is an Oklahoma woman who was convicted of the crime committed by her boyfriend. A jury found her guilty of first-degree murder and recommended life in prison for her.

She arrived home in the early hours of New Year’s Day after a 12-hour shift as a cocktail waitress at an Oklahoma casino. She then went to bed with her 2-year-old son Ryder and her partner.

Rebecca Hogue’s boyfriend killed her son, carved “Rebecca is Innocent” into a tree, then killed himself. She could spend the rest of her life in prison as a result. Hogue didn’t “fail to protect” her son. She shouldn’t be punished for it. https://t.co/sHqgVRBdpx @sjmichaels

However, when she awoke the next morning, her child was not breathing. Furthermore, her lover, Christopher Trent, had already gone to work. As a result, she became concerned and called the cops.

She attempted CPR on her son, but it was futile. When the child arrived at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Boyfriend Christopher Trent Kills Son Jeremiah – Details

Christopher Trent, Rebecca Hogue’s boyfriend, murdered her son Jeremiah. The coroner determined that the child died as a result of blunt-force trauma.

Furthermore, strands of Ryder’s hair were discovered in the walls of the house Hogue shared with Trent. Hogue, on the other hand, claimed that she was unaware of any of this at the time.

She tried to contact Trent and begged him to meet her in the hospital. But, he did not react to her SMS or voice messages.

Four days later, Trent’s corpse was discovered in the Wichita Mountains. According to the police, he committed suicide. Thus, the authorities claimed that Trent murdered Ryder.

He had craved a word in a tree near the site where his body was discovered. He had written that Rebecca was innocent.

What Happened To Mother Rebecca Hogue?

Rebecca Hogue, the mother of Ryder, got indicted and was put in jail for her boyfriend’s crime. After Trent was found dead, the inquiry turned on Hogue. Authorities charged her with first-degree murder.

The law says that parents who fail to safeguard their children from child abuse in Oklahoma may face the same charges as the offender. Hogue claimed that she had no clue that Trent was abusing Ryder until that day.

Nevertheless, she had seen the kid had minor unexplained bruises not long before his death. According to police interviews, when she asked Trent about it, he told her that boys get “nicks and bruises.”

Prosecutors claimed that her early concerns about his injuries, as well as the fact that she continued to let Trent babysit her kid, prove she was guilty of “allowing her child to be murdered.”

Thus, the jury convicted her in November with a possibility of sentencing her to life in prison. The case has caught huge attention on social media, and many people have signed petitions to stop the sentence.

She will appear in court today at 1.30 p.m.
