The long-awaited update on the Katelyn Markham case has finally arrived. After years of speculation, Katelyn’s fiancee at the time of her death, John Carter, has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder.
Ohio art student Katelyn Markham vanished almost 12 years ago. On August 13, 2011, she was last seen leaving her Fairfield apartment.
Markham, who was only 22 years old at the time of her disappearance, was young. Family members characterized Katelyn as a warm, giving light who was kind to others.
In addition, Markham’s decomposing body was found in April 2013 at a landfill in Cedar Grove, Indiana. On Markham’s passing, a documentary has also been produced.
Her partner John Carter has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with her death, which has brought attention to the missing person case.

Missing Case: Katelyn Markham Update
Katelyn’s father, Dave Markham, had long suspected John Carter’s involvement in the case, and it seems his suspicions were correct. In fact, many people believed John to be the primary suspect in Katelyn’s disappearance.
The case garnered widespread attention, and a documentary titled “Taken Too Soon: The Katelyn Markham Story” was released in 2016. The documentary premiered on what would have been Katelyn’s 27th birthday and was attended by family and friends.
Katelyn’s disappearance was initially treated as a missing person case by Fairfield Police in August 2011. Her fiancee, John Carter, reported her missing and claimed to have a gut feeling that Katelyn was still alive. However, Katelyn’s skeletal remains were discovered in a remote wooded area in Cedar Grove, Indiana, in the spring of 2013.
The Franklin County Coroner ruled Katelyn’s death as a homicide, but the actual cause of death remains unknown. Police and volunteers spent months searching for Katelyn, but it was not until 2013 that her remains were discovered.
John Carter Arrested and Charged
Jonathan Palmerton was previously arrested on a felony perjury charge related to Katelyn’s death. Michael Strouse and Ellen “Ellie” Weik were also said to be suspects, but there was not enough evidence for prosecution.
With John Carter’s arrest and indictment on two counts of murder, there may finally be some closure for Katelyn’s family and friends. Carter remains in Butler County Jail as the investigation continues.
