Despite his business success, his passion and greatest achievement was his family. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He devoted countless hours to their numerous and varied activities. Terry had a friendly smile and a firm handshake that made you feel at ease in his company.

The chairman was interested in who you were, how you were, where you came from, and where you were going. When your paths crossed, he simply had a way of brightening your day.

Charles Taliaferro Lindsay Jr., affectionately known as Terry Lindsay, was the chairman of the Lindsay Automotive Group, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.

Terry was born on February 14th, 1935, on Valentine’s Day in Washington, DC.

His parents, Charles Taliaferro Lindsay, Sr., and mother, Margaret Cox Lindsay, predeceased him. He grew up in Washington, DC, and went to Woodrow Wilson High School.

The chairman earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Duke University in 1958. He served in the United States Army in Huntsville, Alabama, at the Army “Rocket and Guided Missile Agency,” a forerunner of the United States Space Program.

Following Terry Lindsay’s discharge from the Army with the rank of First Lieutenant., he worked for Ammann & Whitney, a civil engineering firm, supervising the runways and access road to Dulles International Airport.

During this time, he met his future wife, Regina Curry (Jeannie), on a blind date at the Zebra Room on Wisconsin Avenue.

They married after a brief courtship and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

 

 

Terry would readily admit that Jeannie was the key to all of his success. He began his career in the automobile industry in 1963, working for his father at Lindsay Oldsmobile Cadillac in Alexandria, Virginia.

His wife of 61 years, Jeannie Lindsay, survives him, as do three devoted children and their spouses: Chip Lindsay (Kate), Michael Lindsay (Debra), and Chris Lindsay (Maura), as well as 12 grandchildren he adored: Molly, Terry, Gavin, Finn, Michael, John, Leigh, Nick, Tim, Seamus, Alexandra, and Abigail Lindsay.

His brother, Jack Lindsay (Cookie), niece Jennifer Duffie, and nephew Paul Lindsay survive him.

Terry Lindsay’s brother, Jack, joined the company in 1966, and the company grew to become one of the country’s leading Cadillac dealerships. However, her exact earnings are yet to be known.

He teamed up with Jack Taylor in 1988, and they were chosen as one of the first Lexus dealers in the United States.

 

 

That early partnership grew into remarkable success, resulting in one of the top Lexus dealerships in the country. With the rank of First Lieutenant.

Tery’s sons have since joined the company, and they are expanding it through acquisitions and expansions. Lindsay Automotive Group now includes 15 distinct franchises.

Chairman Terry Lindsay’s Death Cause Explored

Chairman Terry Lindsay died unexpectedly on Monday, July 18th, 2022, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He was 87.

The actual cause of his death is yet to be known as none of his family members also have not shared anything.

Terry served as the Chairman of the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association as well as the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association.

He was the Chairman of the St. Luke Institute, the President of the Board of Regents at Marymount University, the Arlington Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC).

Likewise, he received the John Carroll Society Archdiocese of Washington DC medal in 2015, and he served on the boards of the Alexandria Boys Club, the Arlington District Boy Scouts of America, the Arlington Community Foundation, and First American Bank, among many other professionals, business, and charitable organizations.

He was a sports fanatic who adored the game of golf. He played many courses around the world, but his favorite aspect of the game was camaraderie.

The chairman belonged to a number of clubs and organizations, but the Burning Tree Club was his favorite.
