Keith Hovan, the CEO of the Southcoast Hospitals Group, was purportedly apprehended by Rochester police. Following the incident, he was charged with one count of threatening behavior, according to court documents.

The medical clinic board is currently assessing his situation, and the Hovan family will support the board’s decision. Hovan is the president and CEO of the Southcoast Health System at the moment.

Who is Keith Hovan?

Southcoast Health System, Inc. and Southcoast Hospitals Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Southcoast Health System, are led by Keith A. Hovan, President and Chief Executive Officer. Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA, St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA, and Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA make up the hospital group. The health system’s subsidiaries include the Southcoast Visiting Nurses Association, Southcoast Physicians Group, Southcoast Health Network, and the Southcoast Accountable Care Organization.

In July 2008, Keith was named President and CEO of Southcoast Hospitals Group, Inc., followed by President and CEO of Southcoast Health System, Inc. in July 2011. Keith formerly worked at Danbury Health System as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Keith worked at Montefiore Medical Center in New York as Vice President of Clinical Services for Henry and Lucy Moses and Einstein-Weiler Hospitals before joining Danbury Health System. Serving as Associate Hospital Director and Administrator for Surgical and Emergency Services were among his other responsibilities at Montefiore.

He formerly worked at Bridgeport Hospital as the Director of Nursing for Surgical and Emergency Services, Nurse Manager of Emergency Services, and a staff nurse. He has a Master of Science in Nursing from Sacred Heart University and is a member of various professional organizations. He graduated first in his class with an Award for Academic Excellence.

Keith took over as President and CEO of Southcoast Hospitals Group, Inc. in July 2008, and then as President and CEO of Southcoast Health System, Inc. in July 2011. Keith was previously the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Danbury Health System. Before joining Danbury Health System, Keith served as Vice President of Clinical Services for Henry and Lucy Moses and Einstein-Weiler Hospitals at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. His additional responsibilities at Montefiore included serving as Associate Hospital Director and Administrator for Surgical and Emergency Services.

Following the 2014 gubernatorial election, Keith co-chaired Governor Baker’s Healthcare Transition Team. The team was tasked with assisting in the development of priority action items for the new administration and the Commonwealth’s healthcare system.
