Over the years, the first lady has served on the board of the Child Saving Institue, including two years as chair and, most recently, the Nebraska Families Collaborative.
The first lady has also actively volunteered as a court-appointed special advocate for at-risk children with Douglas County CASA.

Regarding the Governor of Nebraska, Pete was born in Nebraska City on August 19, 1964, the oldest of his parents’ four children, Joe Ricketts and Marlene Ricketts.
Pete then moved to Omaha with the family. Pete and his siblings, Laura, Tom, and Todd, all were enrolled at Westside High School, from which Pete graduated in 1982.
Later he joined the University of Chicago, earning a B.A. in biology in 1986 and an MBA in marketing and finance in 1991. He returned to Omaha after completing graduate school.

Talking about her husband, Pete, he stated his net worth at $45 million and $50 million back in a 2006 report. After returning to Omaha, Pete worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a year.
In 1993, he started to work for his father’s business. He was subsequently appointed to several executive posts, ultimately becoming the company’s chief operating officer during his father’s tenure as CEO.
Later in 2006, Pete left Ameritrade to run for the U.S. Senate, and after his loss, he returned to the company’s board, remaining until the Ricketts family relinquished its board seats in the year 2016.
