Hamish McLachlan has spoken openly about his and his wife’s struggle following their newborn daughter Milla’s health scare in January 2013.

Milla was the McLachlans’ miracle child, conceived during the couple’s third IVF attempt.

Sophie’s ability to conceive naturally was questioned after she was involved in a serious car accident prior to meeting her husband. Milla had to be given human growth hormone four times a day as part of her intensive treatment, which is so potent that it is not given to animals.

Milla’s parents were warned that she would scream so loudly the first time that she would never open her mouth again.

His brother, AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, was instrumental in getting Milla the human growth hormone.

Milla had become part of the 10% who survived after six months, with Dr. Freeman describing her as a “miracle.” Milla is now happy and healthy, and McLachlan treasures every day with her.

Milla’s recovery, according to Dr. Freeman, was a “miracle,” and she is now a healthy seven-year-old.

“The only alternative we had was to give her four of a hormone so powerful that they don’t like giving it to animals,” McLachlan explained, and the seizures would “either stop within six days, which were going to either kill her or harm her for life.”

Milla’s mouth became sealed as a result of the initial hormones, and the side effects caused her face to swell to the point where she no longer appeared to be Milla.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, Hamish’s brother, was among many who offered to help the parents.

McLachlan began to feel hopeful on day 14 after a string of seizure-free days, but Dr. Freeman warned that the three-month mark would be critical. Then, fearful of a relapse, he stated that six months would be a good indicator of her recovery.

According to McLachlan, she’s performing bits and pieces while holding a highlighter.
