On August 7, 1984, he made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees. He became the 1,000th player in Yankees history to take the field.

He played with the Astros for his first entire season in 1986. With 12 victories that season, he established a rookie record for the Astros that Roy Oswalt would ultimately break in 2001.

Since October 1985, James Deshaies, popular as JD, has been wed to Lori Deshaies. After meeting in high school, the pair began dating and have been together for more than 25 years.

Three daughters, Kelly Deshaies, Libby Deshaies, and Molly Deshaies, were born to James and his wife, Lori. The second kid, Libby, is a second-year law student, while the oldest daughter, Molly, is a teacher.

Kelly is the eldest daughter. After Kelly graduates high school in the upcoming year, the Deshaies family will relocate to Chicago.
