Bloomfield Avenue was closed between Ridgewood and Hillside avenues on Tuesday morning due to an ongoing police investigation.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was present as police directed traffic at Ridgewood and Bloomfield avenues in the town’s heart, near the municipal building, library, elementary school, and police department. The police zone is located in front of a steep embankment in the park.
The Glen Ridge train station will be closed, according to police. The crash occurred not far from a 2018 crash that killed two people. The 2018 crash was also the result of a Montclair police pursuit.

The intersection and Bloomfield Avenue are the focal points of activity in Glen Ridge, an affluent borough of fewer than 8,000 people.
Mike Lucci, a four-year resident of Glen Ridge, said that while Bloomfield Avenue is busy in the area, he rarely sees any accidents.
On April 29, the state changed its guidelines on police pursuits, allowing cops to pursue suspected car thieves again after previously only being allowed to do so to prevent death or serious injury. That policy was implemented in December 2021.
