The organizers of the Cape Epic 2022 have confirmed the death of a contestant following an accident.
According to News 24, the rider had died while being airlifted to the hospital. Following this, a very stressful moment has arrived at the scenes.
The Cape Epic organizers have provided an official statement: “We share our greatest sympathies with the family and friends of the rider and will continue to offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time”
“We thank the medical personnel who provided the rider with continuous medical support and care,”

The name and details of the contestant who recently died in Cape Epic 2022 have not been public yet.
In 2010, James Williamson was the name of the contestant who had died in the Absa Cape Epic Mountain Bike race
He had died in Ceres Private Hospital after his riding partner was unable to wake him ahead of Stage 3. However, it was not an accident.
It was later confirmed that Williamson had a pre-existing heart condition that took his life.
Also, the 26-year-old had been working as an editor of the Australian Enduro mountain bike magazine.

On January 3, 2013, another South African mountain biker Burry Stander had died. He was hit by a taxi bus while finishing a training ride.
Stander was a household name following his courageous ride at the 2012 Olympic Games cross-country mountain bike race.
